Meet Annie Warner, our Education Coordinator at McSheffrey Resource Centre.
Education
At McSheffrey, we are proud to have a full-time Education Coordinator on our team. This role provides personalized academic support and alternative schooling options for students who face challenges staying engaged with traditional school. Through one-on-one guidance, tailored learning plans, and ongoing support, our Education Coordinator helps students build confidence, develop skills, and stay on track with their education.

Alternate Setting Instruction
Grades 7-12 | Monday to Friday
This program provides a supportive learning environment for Grades 7–12 students who have difficulty attending traditional school. Grades 7–9 attend in the mornings (9:00–11:30 AM) and Grades 10–12 in the afternoons (12:30–3:00 PM), Monday to Friday. The program gives students the guidance and support they need to stay on track with their learning.
Afterschool Homework Program
Grades 5-12 | Monday to Thursday
Students in Grades 5 and up can drop in Monday to Thursday from 3:00–4:00 PM to work on homework with guidance from our Education Coordinator. The program provides a supportive space to get help, complete assignments, and strengthen their academic skills.
Youth Achieve
Ages 12-18 | As Requested
Youth Achieve offers one-on-one tutoring for youth needing extra support with schoolwork or literacy. The program helps build confidence, strengthen academic skills, and develop positive study habits. Space is limited to ensure individualized support.
Homework Haven
Grades 7-12 | Weekly
The first 30 minutes of Youth Group on Tuesdays are set aside for homework and study. Youth can complete assignments or review schoolwork with support from Centre staff.
Recreation
Our recreational programs are thoughtfully curated to cater to all ages, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy. From youth group to 50+ summer program, our diverse offerings promise a vibrant and engaging experience for every member of our wonderful community.

Afterschool Program
Kindergarten-Grade 6 | 4 Days a Week
This program begins with a nutritious snack provided through the support of the Kids Eat Smart Foundation, followed by engaging activities. Children take part in a variety of experiences, including sports, arts and crafts, literacy activities, and community outings. The program fosters healthy growth and development while encouraging active living, creativity, and lifelong learning in a safe and welcoming environment.
Children’s Choir
Kindergarten – Grade 6 | Friday
Our Children’s Choir comes together every Friday to practice, learn new songs, and have fun through music. Throughout the year, we proudly perform at McSheffrey Community events and celebrations. No experience is necessary—just a love for singing and a willingness to join in!
Summer Camp
Kindergarten – Grade 6 | 5 Days a Week (7 Weeks)
Our Summer Camp provides a safe and engaging environment for children to learn, play, and stay active throughout the summer. The program includes a variety of activities, games, sports, and creative projects, as well as regular field trips and outings to explore the community. Healthy snacks and lunches are provided, and campers have the opportunity to build new friendships while enjoying enriching experiences.
Senior Summer Program
Ages 50+ | Weekly
Designed for adults aged 50 and over, this program offers a weekly activity, primarily outings to local attractions and community events, providing opportunities to stay active, socialize, and explore the St. John’s area. Registration is required, and spaces are limited to ensure a quality experience for all participants.
Youth Group
Grades 7-12 | Tuesdays & Fridays
Youth Group starts with homework time, followed by activities like sports, crafts, games, cooking, outings, and social time with friends. The program offers mentorship and positive role models in a safe, welcoming environment.
Youth Leadership
Ages 12-15 | Wednesday
The Youth Leadership Program helps young people develop leadership abilities and essential life skills. Participants learn about volunteering, goal setting, education and career planning, the job search process, and preparing for their future. The program empowers youth to build confidence, explore opportunities, and set themselves up for success.

The Centre offers a range of healthcare services and health programs to support the well-being of community members. From routine health checks to specialized programs, our services are accessible, convenient, and designed to help you stay healthy.

Public Health Nurse
Our Public Health Nurse, Stephanie Matthews, is available at the Centre to support children and families with a range of services, including Healthy Baby Club, Postnatal and Long-Term Healthy Beginnings, Child Health Clinics, Preschool Health Checks, School Health, and communicable disease support.
Nurse Practitioner
Our Nurse Practitioner, Glenda Phillips, is available at the Centre to provide a range of health care services, including diagnosis of illnesses, referrals, prescriptions for various conditions, and support for other health concerns.
Nobody’s Perfect Parenting Program
Parents/Guardians with children ages 0-5| Weekly
Led by a Public Health Nurse, this group takes place every Monday at 10:30 AM.

Conversation Café
Newcomers to Canada | Twice a Month
Conversation Café is a welcoming program for newcomers to Canada and English language learners. Participants can enjoy warm, guided conversations, fun and simple activities, and light food and drinks while practicing conversational English in a relaxed and friendly setting. It’s a great chance to meet new people, build confidence in speaking, and feel more connected to the community. Childminding is also available for participants.
Afternoon Tea
Seniors 50+ | Twice a Month
Our Afternoon Tea Program takes place twice a month on Wednesdays at 12:00 PM. Seniors can enjoy a light lunch, a fun game of bingo, and the chance to connect with others in a welcoming, supportive environment.
Kettle is On
All Ages | Weekly
Our Kettle is On community meal takes place every Friday at 12:00 PM. We serve a home-cooked meal with dessert, tea, and coffee, focusing on healthy options to promote wellness. This program is open to all community members.
Playgroup
Ages 0-5 | Weekly
Children enjoy playtime in the gym, crafts, and story time, along with a provided snack. While the kids are engaged, parents and guardians have the chance to socialize, share parenting experiences, and explore the many resources available at the Centre.
Adult Coloring Group
Ages 18+ | Once a Month
Once a month, adults gather to color, enjoy refreshments, and share friendly conversation. This relaxing program offers a creative way to unwind and connect with others in the community.
Music & Memories
Seniors 50+ | Once a Month
Music and Memories is a program for seniors that combines music, conversation, and connection. Participants enjoy refreshments while taking turns selecting songs for the group to listen to, followed by a discussion about how the music makes them feel and the memories it evokes. This engaging program encourages reflection, sharing, and social connection through the power of music.
